Groups - Examples

Art
Participants in this tutor-led group can explore all aspects of art using water colours, acrylics and other materials.
No previous knowledge or skills in painting or drawing is required as assistance will be given in an informal and relaxing setting.

Photography
This group is supported by a Resource Centre worker. Individuals will learn the skill of digital photographs, processing techniques, composition using computer software, framing presentations and how to display work for exhibitions.
Group members visit different locations and develop an appreciation of everyday surroundings.

Creative Writing
Members are supported by a Centre worker and volunteer in the writing of poems, limericks and short stories.
They took part in a Digital Commonwealth Project run by the University of the West of Scotland - their eBook can be viewed and downloaded by clicking here.

Woodwork
This group supports individuals in learning basic woodwork techniques such as sanding, sawing and how to use other equipment.
Group members are encouraged to use their new skills in making tables, garden chairs and small drawers.
No woodwork experience is necessary as assistance is offered.

MovieMakers/Web Design
This is an outreach tutor-led group located in the centre at Love Street. supported by a resource centre worker. Members are taught how to use a range of video hardware and software, film and edit material and convert it to an appropriate format, e.g. DVD and mp4 (see website link below).
They design, upload and maintain a variety of websites, e.g.:

Gardening
The gardening group is supported by Centre staff and a group of hard-working volunteers.
The group aim to enable people with an interest in gardening to take part in a range of activities from growing vegetables and plants from seed to harvesting the produce.
Group members also tend the vegetable crops, decorative borders and the sensory garden within the DRC.
